According to the Game Sales Data (GSD) reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Starfield has achieved significant success, becoming the biggest debut of any Xbox console in Europe this generation. Furthermore, the game has earned the title of the fastest-selling game based on a new intellectual property released in 2023.
When considering games released in the current calendar year, Starfield currently holds the fifth spot in terms of sales. The top four positions are occupied by titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. However, Starfield stands out from this group as the only game in the top 10 available on Game Pass from the beginning. This availability potentially contributed to the game’s popularity, as suggested by Chris Dring from GI.biz.
In the European Top 10 ranking of the previous week, Starfield leads a unique collection of mainly older titles. The list includes games such as Titanfall 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Need for Speed: Heat, and Rainbow Six: Siege.
Bethesda Game Studios proudly announced that Starfield has achieved the highest initial player count results out of all their games. By September 8th, the game had attracted over 6 million players. However, detailed sales data will likely not be disclosed, as Microsoft no longer publicly provides such information. Nevertheless, Bethesda Game Studios plans to announce further information as Starfield reaches significant player milestones.
The development team is currently working on the first set of patches for the game. These updates will bring many necessary improvements, such as brightness and contrast controls, HDR calibration menu, FOV slider, NVIDIA DLSS, and support for 32:9 ultrawide monitors in the PC version. Additionally, a “consume” button will be introduced, allowing players to eat food in the game.
Despite the lack of official modding tools for Starfield (which are planned for release next year), modders are working hard to enhance the PC gaming experience. PC players can expect modifications that will increase realism and expand ship-building possibilities beyond the default boundaries.
