Nintendo Switch 2: Speculations about the New Console

In recent times, there have been rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, and recently, internal emails from the FTC v. Microsoft case shed some light on the matter. In December 2022, representatives from Activision, including CEO Bobby Kotick, met with Nintendo executives to discuss the new generation of the Switch console. According to internal emails, the next generation of the Switch, known as “Switch NG,” is said to have the same performance as the PS4 and Xbox One. The document also mentions the need to obtain early access to hardware prototypes. These pieces of information confirm that Nintendo has been actively preparing key publishers like Activision for the next generation of the Switch for several months.

According to reports, the new Nintendo Switch console is expected to be released in 2024, with an LCD screen instead of OLED and continued support for cartridge slots. Furthermore, trusted developers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Nintendo Switch 2 during Gamescom in August, including technical demos showing the performance of games on the yet-to-be-revealed system. There was even a presentation of an enhanced version of the game Zelda: Breath of the Wild, optimized for the more advanced hardware of the next generation Switch. Additionally, Nintendo showcased a technological demo of The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 by Epic Games running on the new hardware. This demo utilized Nvidia’s DLSS scaling technology with ray tracing enabled, suggesting that the chip in the new Switch will be capable of handling the latest AAA games.

Although there is no official confirmation from Nintendo yet, these developments suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 is in the works and is poised to bring significant improvements to the gaming experience.
