Recently leaked internal emails indicate a meeting between video game publisher Activision and Nintendo in December 2022. According to the information mentioned in the emails, the purpose of the meeting was to familiarize themselves with the upcoming Nintendo console, referred to as the “NG Switch.” The emails, which became public as part of the FTC v. Microsoft case, involved Activision CEO Bobby Kotick and other high-ranking executives in the company.
While most of the content in the emails remained censored, one section suggests that Activision is interested in developing games for the NG Switch due to its similar performance to previous-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The email also mentioned the desire to gain early access to developer hardware prototypes to ensure compatibility of Activision games with the new console.
Coinciding with these reports, earlier this month, there were rumors that NG Switch tech demos were showcased at the Gamescom event in August, also known as the Nintendo Switch 2. These demos included an enhanced version of the game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, specifically designed to leverage the specifications of the Switch 2. While sources have confirmed this information, Nintendo has not made any official statements regarding their next console at the time of writing this article.
Furthermore, as part of the FTC v. Microsoft case, documents have revealed Microsoft’s plans for refreshing the Xbox Series X console. According to these information, the refreshed version is said to exclude a disc drive in the base console, instead offering 2TB of internal storage and other improvements.
